Essential Skills for Immigrants Program
The Essential Skills for Immigrants Program curriculum is based on nine Essential Skills: computer use, continuous learning, document use, oral communication, numeracy, reading, thinking, working with others and writing.
The program also focuses on job preparedness and improvement of English as a second language.
Who can attend: People on the Coast with language difficulties or from a different background
What participants will learn at the program:
- Employee rights
- Performance evaluation in a work setting
- Interview training
- Working with others
- Job training and job search on the Sunshine Coast
- Non-verbal awareness
- Awareness of feelings and how they affect communication
- How to use feedback
- Listening skills and styles
- Barriers to communication
Additional courses, which require pre-registration and a minimum of 7 students, include
- OFA Level One First Aid
- Basic computer skills (internet, email, Word, cover letters and brochures)
When: Thursdays from 9:30 – 11:30 am
Where: Community Resource Centre located at 5520 Trail Avenue in Sechelt
